Delhi Police provides gory details of a six-month-old investigation involving a missing girl, including her murder, chopping into 35 pieces, and dumping body.
A guy has been detained by Delhi police on suspicion of murdering his live-in partner, dismembering her body into 35 pieces, and dispersing the parts around the forest area of Delhi’s Mehrauli. On Monday, the accused was ordered by a municipal court to spend 5 days in police custody.
The police are looking for Shraddha’s body and have opened a murder investigation.
Ankit Chauhan, Additional DCP-I for the South district, stated that the couple’s disagreement over marriage started around mid-May and quickly turned violent before Poonawala killed her.
“Her body was then cut into more than 35 pieces by the accused. He purchased a 300-liter LG refrigerator to store the body parts along with a supply of room fresheners and incense. Over the course of a few days, he scattered the pieces over the forest. To dispose of the dismembered body pieces, he would often leave after midnight” He continued.
According to Delhi Police sources, Aftab Amin Poonawalla, the suspect in the horrifying Shraddha murder case, studied a number of crime films and web series before committing the crime, including “Dexter.” They also mentioned using Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl) for cleaning blood from his rented flat.
Sodium Hypochlorite is commonly known as bleach and is generally used as a disinfecting agent and also is excellent at removing stains and unpleasant odours.
On May 18, the suspect, Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, allegedly strangled Shradha, a 26-year-old girl. Police claim that over the course of 18 days, Poonawalla dismembered her body into 35 pieces, purchased a new refrigerator to store them, and dispersed them. He used to leave the house around two in the morning with a body part in a polybag to escape any suspicion.
Police have now found some of the deceased’s body parts, but the head is still missing; it may be difficult to locate because the accused threw the parts over the span of 15 to 18 days. The remaining pieces may have been consumed by the animal in that scenario.
They met via a dating app and were in a relationship for 3 years. After the girl’s parents rejected their relationship, the accused and the victim moved from Mumbai to Delhi early this year. Shraddha stopped returning calls from her family. Vikas Madaan, her father, visited Delhi on November 8 to see how his daughter was doing. The flat was locked when he arrived. He went to the Mehrauli Police and reported an alleged kidnapping.
He filed a complaint, and the police detained Poonawalla on Saturday. The accused initially claimed that the girl left following their argument, but he admitted throughout the questioning that they were fighting frequently because Shraddha wanted to wed him. Additionally, he admitted to killing Shraddha and discarding her body.
