Exhumation

Answer: [C] Digging out of a buried body

Explanation: “Exhumation” comes from Latin words : Ex and Humus

Ex meaning “out of”, and, Humus, meaning “ground”.

It means legally digging out the coffin of a dead person from his grave. The Purpose of exhumation is to establish the cause of death, or to know other relevant fact, such as the person’s identity, to match DNA, etc.

In India, exhumation can only be done under magistrate order under section 176 of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, and, digging out of an illegally buried body can be done by the police under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973.
