Startup CEO Accused of Horrific Murder: Allegedly Kills Son to Block Visitation Rights

Horrific Murder

News of the horrific murder in Goa surfaced on Monday when Suchana Seth, the 39-year-old CEO, was apprehended by the Karnataka Police for murdering her own 4-year-old child.

Seth’s LinkedIn page states that she is the CEO of the startup Mindful AI Lab and was named one of the top “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021.”

In this case, the police have provided some unsettling information about this horrific murder. According to sources, Seth is accused of committing the horrible act of murdering her son at a service apartment in Goa. The alleged motive behind this heartbreaking incident was to prevent her estranged spouse from meeting their son as part of visitation rights.

The accused and her son had checked into a rental service flat at Candolim in North Goa on January 6, per the police report. On Monday, after spending two days there, she took a taxi to Bengaluru. The staff at the apartment in Goa became suspicious when they discovered red stains in Seth’s room, prompting them to notify the local police that her son was not seen with her when she left. After getting in touch with Seth’s taxi driver, the police made a disturbing discovery when they inspected the luggage: the body of a child. Seth was arrested after an FIR was registered.

According to the official, the accused woman is from West Bengal and resides in Bengaluru, while her spouse is from Kerala. The accused and her husband recently went through a divorce, and it seems that she is not pleased with the court’s decision to grant her estranged husband visitation rights with their son every Sunday.

The accused was taken into custody Monday night in Chitradurga, Karnataka, and transferred to Goa on Tuesday.

A senior official said on Tuesday that she told police that she and her husband were no longer together and that “divorce proceedings” were underway between them. According to the official, her estranged spouse is currently in Jakarta (Indonesia), and he has been informed about the incident.

Forensic Science In Criminal Investigation

The 4-year-old boy’s body has been moved to the Aimangala government hospital. “The exact cause of a child’s death would be ascertained only after an autopsy is performed,” according to officials.

The official also stated that the motive for the horrific murder is unknown because the accused woman has yet to be interrogated as she is being taken to Goa from a neighbouring state. The body would be given to the Goa Police after a postmortem examination, according to Kumar Naik, the health inspector at the Hiriyur Government Hospital in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka, as reported by ANI.

The Calangute police have charged her with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and destruction of evidence under Section 201 of the IPC. They have also charged her under the Goa Children’s Act.

There is currently an ongoing investigation into the matter.
